INTRODUCTION

The main objective of collaboration with Ministry of health is to produce technicians and technologists, who can devote themselves to the national development through the application of the acquired technical knowledge in the field of their specialization.

Health sciences department offers the following courses approved, accredited and regulated by different regulatory bodies under the following three sections:

  1. Pharmaceutical technology by the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board,
  2. Nutrition and dietetics by the Kenya Nutritionist and Dieticians Institute and
  3. Medical laboratory Technologist by the Kenya medical laboratory technician and technologists’ board

    1.   Nutrition and Dietetics section

Nutrition and Dietetics section currently offer the following courses

  1. Diploma in nutrition and dietetics (three modules)
  2. Certificate in nutrition and dietetics (two modules)

As per the requirements of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) and accreditation from the Kenya Nutritionist and Dietetics Institute (KNDI), Trainees in this section will sit for KNEC exams after every module and must go for clinical attachment before completing their courses for a minimum of 12 weeks for certificate course and 24 weeks for Diploma. Our students will be guided and followed up to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in skilled acquisition by equipping with the necessary skills and knowledge by the attaching facilities. During clinical orientation and clinical attachment, students are assessed by Registered nutritionists and dieticians by the KNDI.

2.      Pharmaceutical technology section

This section currently offers

  • Diploma in pharmaceutical technology (three stages)

As a requirement by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, students will sit for two stage exams and one final KNEC exam. Trainees will go for six months attachment before completing their course. Practical sessions and clinical orientation is done continually throughout their study period.

3.      Medical laboratory technologist

This section currently offers

Diploma in Medical laboratory Technologist

As approved and accredited by the Kenya medical laboratory technician and technologists’ board, this course takes three years
